Hello, Trees! A Walking Serenade

A light and sound sculpture installation celebrating the resilience of nature

Hello, Trees! A Walking Serenade by Daily tour les jours encourages visitors to talk to trees. The installation is comprised of a tunnel of light and sound running the length of a stand of 100+ year-old oak trees. At one end, a mouthpiece encourages people to speak into it. When they do, their voice is transformed into light, which snakes its ways through arches that lead to speakers. As the voice traverses the tunnel, it transforms from words into pure melody while maintaining the rhythm of the original speech pattern. The melody is released into the air. The work is a nod to the way that the trees communicate with each other. It offers humans a chance to communicate with a part of nature that has withstood the passing of time.

Contributer notes

What is surprising, refreshing, most interesting?

The installation uses technology in an urban space to make nature the central focus of the work.

Key Insights? What can we learn from this?

Breaking down complex structures, like language, into simpler, rhythmic patterns can be an effective way of breaking down boundaries.
