Deep see blue surrounding you – Biennale Arte 2019 | France
Deep see blue surrounding you / Vois ce bleu profond te fondre
Deep See Blue Surrounding You is an exhibit by Laure Prouvost for the Bianelle Arte 2019 France house in Venice. By separating the viewer from their body using a room designed for moderate sensory deprivation, Prouvost grants participants an opportunity to witness a transformative pilgrimage shown by a short film. The video uses water as a symbol for reflection, metamorphosis, and discovery. At the end of the story, the characters step out into Venice itself, right into the backyard of the Biennale, which even further connects the viewer to the experience. After viewing the film, audiences are ushered through a small door that leads into another room which is just bright enough to be able to make out an interpretive dancer oscillating around in the corner. The dance is yet another representation of the transformation people go through in their own psyche. After their journey through the installation, the viewer steps out into Venice just like the actors did in the film. The whole work attempts to take the viewer out of their own experience and plant them into one that is more secular and widely understood using the map of a physical pilgrimage to reflect the journey of life.
