Hundreds pose nude wearing only masks for London art installation
Hundreds of volunteers have stripped and posed naked in a north London park -- all in the name of art.
Spencer Tunick, an american photographer known for organizing large-scale nude shoots, gathered 220 volunteers at Alexandra Palace to be Everyone Together-an art installation. This installation was the first participatory work of art in the UK since the lockdown began in March. The volunteers were photograph wearing nothing but a mask, were at least one meter apart, and were screened and temperature checked before the installation began. Tunick said, “The reality of masses of people close together — shoulder to shoulder, skin touching skin — may be something of the past for now, but still the desire is there for that natural connectivity, perhaps more so now than ever.” Even though Tunick’s past installations were often used as a form of protest Everyone Together was created to celebrate “participation and freedom”.
Contributor notes
What is surprising, refreshing, most interesting?
It was refreshing seeing a work of art that celebrated “participation and freedom”, in the past few months the information on the news has made many feel hopeless, due to social injustice, global warming, and the pandemic, it’s refreshing seeing that people can still come together to celebrate each other. It’s also interesting seeing that this installation was the first major participatory work of art since the United Kingdom went into lockdown.
Key Insights? What can we learn from this?
Spencer Tunick’s Everyone Together show sthat we can still come together to celebrate and collaborate with each other, even while being safe regarding Covid-19. That Covid-19 doesn’t need to mean isolation.
