Contributor notes
What is surprising, refreshing, most interesting?
I think it's interesting to see the newest take on a children's entertainment/content device. Thinking back to objects like the Viewmaster to interactive books to singing stuffed animals — and excluding exclusively screen-based devices like iPads which are a whole different conversation — they show the progression of how screen-less children's content consumption has evolved. I think it actually has a lot of space for independence and potential for learning in children, but it is definitely hard to keep allowing the newest toy, device, or unnecessary prop into a household.
Key Insights? What can we learn from this?
I think devices like these definitely bring up the question again about how much technology we choose to expose to our children and how much of it is already ingrained in their lives. It is near impossible to never let your child see a screen for their entire life or interact with technology. Elementary school often have required devices for students or have a lot of internet-based learning, so it is not necessarily a bad thing to bring it into your home. But I do think it looks to the conversation on how parenting has changed so quickly with the rise of technology.
