Foresta Lumina

An illuminated and animated stroll through an enchanted forest

Foresta Lumina was one of several illuminated experiences created by Moment Factory, a storytelling and interactive experience company founded by Dominc Audet, Sakchin Bessette, and Eric Fournier. The interactive forest walk was 2 kilometers long and in the middle of nowhere at Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook. The installation brought to life the myths of the area using light, projection, animation, and soundscapes. Although some of the moments along the walk could actually be considered quite frightening for those of a young age, video documentation of the work shows many children participating in the experience. It looks like the walk was comprised of individual moments and stories that interwove into a larger narrative about the mythical entities who supposedly inhabit the forest. It was a work specific to the site it inhabited. It also appears to be something which can be replicated, as Moment Factory has installed other similar works in other locations. The installations are all called Light Walks. Each is created specifically to meet the needs of the location and the customer. The purpose of these light walks is to turn places into destinations. Foresta Lumina is scheduled to return in 2021.

Contributer notes

What is surprising, refreshing, most interesting?

It's interesting that an "enchanted" space contains so much imagery that could be potentially disturbing. The content doesn't appear to be focused toward children, or even worried about whether or not they might be frightened. It appears to draw upon the myths of the area, no matter what they are.

Key Insights? What can we learn from this?

Moment Factory has created a formula for experience design, but it still allows for each installation to be site specific and unique.
